What makes your jewelry unique?
Paying homage to the spirit of rivers with their rushing or tranquil waters to me is more powerful than replicating natural objects. By capturing the feeling in visual expression, I create pieces that are powerful , yet delicate, to be worn every day conveying the elegance and ruggedness of nature.
Why is sustainability important to your art?
Acquiring the materials we use can have very negative effects on our planet. I obtain my metals from a refinery that adheres to the Green Circle Certification system , meaning that an independent third-party evaluation has been conducted and is conducted yearly. All by- products of the recycling process are neutralized before being let go into the environment. Searching for ethically sourced gemstones is an ongoing process. I have started using lab grown diamonds for the small white diamonds as their creation has a minimal effect on the environment when compared to mining.
What do you do to give back?
I volunteer with Friends of the Wissahickon as well as making donations to help maintain the park.
What do you hope your art inspires in others?
My hope is that by showing the beauty of nature in a wearable form, people may also become more aware and respectful and become more connected with it, and not mere spectators.
