Exhibit Dates: January 26 2024- February 25, 2024

About the Exhibit:

Rebecca and John Scheuer have been together since 1986. They have always worked as a team, but for the first time ever they are combining their creative talents. Whimsy abounds with Rebecca's oil paintings, including crazy cocktails, ostriches, parts of things, and pairs of things. As usual, John reighns the whimsy in with his elegant wood bowls and pens made from reclaimed and sometimes rare wood. Individually their work is good, together it is worth the trip to The Jeweled Warrior to check it out!

About John:

John is one of 9 children. At an early age he spent a lot of time drilling holes in his dad's work bench, taking his toys apart to see how they worked, and building things. He was curious, and one of the few kids crazy enough to hold the flashlight for his dad just to learn how to fix whatever was broken. His interest in making things continued in high school when he had his first shop classes. It is no surprise that when it came time to go to college John pursued a degree in Technology Education at Millersville University. He paid his way through college working for a carpenter contractor, and following graduation he continued as a foreman for the company framing houses on the Main Line. After 10 years framing, John took a Tech Ed teaching position in Coatesville School District. He is now teaching wood, photography, yearbook publications, electronics and CAD at Downingtown East High School. He looks forward to retirement in a few years and plans to spend a lot of time tinkering in his wood shop.

About Rebecca:

Rebecca is a retired teacher and school counselor. She is relatively new to the art scene. She never took an art class in high school or college, and her creative talents were confined to doodling at meetings and making ugly DIY country crafts. In 2015 Rebecca and John were in an accident. A texting teen hit them head on going 80 miles an hour. It was one of those accidents that people see and wonder if there are survivors. Rebecca had a concussion and hemorrhage behind her right eye. She spent months in a fog and struggled with double vision. Her vision therapist suggested that she try something that requires eye/hand coordination, like painting, as an exercise to strengthen her eye muscles. As life sometimes goes, she stumbled upon an amazing artist and teacher, Bruce Becker, at The Warehouse Studios in Reading. He assured her that he could teach her how to paint. She started with simple objects, and as she created, her vision improved. Now Rebecca spends most of her time in the studio John built for her, painting things that make her smile. She is grateful that a serious accident has actually given her the opportunity to express herself and share her love of bright colors, nature, and the simple beauty in our everyday surroundings. She often adds whimsy, which brings her joy and reflects her positive outlook on life.
